Weekly
Health Checks (Every 1-2 weeks):
-Weighing (Sows 700-1000 Boars 900-1200)
-Clipping nails
-Brush my long haired guinea pig
(I cut his hair to floor lenght and a little shorter around his back end)
-Check over their whole body for lumps
-Eyes should be bright and clear
-Nose and mouth should be clean and free of discharge
-Check for chipped teeth and they shouldn't be too long
Homemade Seed Mix
Each Guinea pig gets 1 tsp of the seed mix per week, this is because it should only take up around 2-3% of their diet. Seeds are not a crucial part of a guinea pigs diet, but they provide more variety and many beneficial vitamins and minerals. This recipe can be altered with other safe seeds if you do not have some of these.
Recipe:
-1/2 cup : buckwheat
-1/4 cup : linseed/flax seeds
-1/4 cup : sesame seeds
-1/4 cup : quinoa
-1/2 cup : millet/budgie food
-2 tsp : cumin seeds
-2 tsp : fennel seeds
-2 tsp : pumpkin seeds
